Dykons - t.A.T.u. (Rainbow Network)

Dykons: T.A.T.U.

With last week’s news that Tatu might be on the verge of splitting up after a bitter power struggle, we thought it was time to remember why we fell in love with girls in the first place.

Name:
T.A.T.U.

Also known as:
Lena Katina and Julia Volkova, those Russian babes, lesbian Lolitas, Sapphic schoolgirls, etc

Not to be confused with:
Any other girl band you`ve ever known.

Last seen:
Snogging through an artfully arranged chainlink fence on a soundstage whilst recording their video for the single "All The Things She Said`.

Best feature:
Their look: pouty baby-dyke nymphette in faux school uniform (although no educational establishment worth their salt would allow mini-skirts that short).

Candy Bar or Kenric?
These chicks were made for the Candy Bar, in fact it`s only a matter of time until the Candy bar has a T.A.T.U. theme night.

Most likely to say:
Something coy in Russian whenever they are asked if they really are lesbians.

Least likely to say:
"The majestic and understated abstract minimalism of Philip Glass` orchestral filmscores, though widely imitated, never fails to float my boat."

Are they sistas?
They do a lot of snogging, hand-holding and swooning for the cameras, but some people think that this might be - gasp! - a publicity stunt. Who knows what they get up to behind closed doors? They`re only nippers after all. Both Lena and Julia sang in a group called Neposedy but Julia had to leave after she was accused of “obscene behaviour and corrupting other singers”. Oh yes, and Lena has a dog called Blankeria.

Do mention:
Their meteoric rise to fame. 1999 seems like only yesterday when Lena and Julia were auditioning alongside 500 other T.A.T.U. hopefuls on a chilly street in Moscow. Now they`re on magazine covers, they`re being gossiped about all over the place, and their new CD is likely to be a huge hit.

Don't mention:
The fact that 15 minutes of fame whizzes by mighty quickly these days.
