LONDON, 22 MAY, 2003 - Russian musical phenomenon t.A.T.u. continue to make history, now becoming the first recording act to achieve European platinum status with two different language versions of the same album, their debut Interscope/Universal Music release, 200km/H In The Wrong Lane.

The milestone marks the latest in a series of music firsts for the female duo. t.A.T.u.'s international debut single on Interscope, All The Things She Said, topped the charts in nine countries, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain and Italy, while 200km/H In The Wrong Lane has sold more than three million copies worldwide. They are the first Russian act to achieve this level of global success.

In May 2002, t.A.T.u. became the first act from Eastern Europe to be certified platinum by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). This was for one million European sales of the original Russian-language release of their debut album, entitled 200km/H Po Vstrechnoy.

Now the English-language version, re-recorded by Universal Music's Interscope Records with famed U.K. producer Trevor Horn and Interscope's Martin Kierszenbaum, has been platinum-certified by IFPI for one million sales in Europe. This album was released worldwide last October.

200km/H In The Wrong Lane recently hit No. 1 in Japan, making chart history there as the first debut album by an international act to open at the top spot. The release has now been certified quadruple platinum in that country, and has sold more than one million copies in Japan alone.

The album has been a critical success as well as a commercial blockbuster. Accolades from some of the UK's most respected publications include:

"The reason t.A.T.u. have become globally huge is that 'All The Things She Said' is an A1, solid gold classic. And it's not the only gem on this album. Musically, pop doesn't get much better than this." - Time Out Magazine

"I thought 'If this is cynical, processed pop, give me some more!' because I'm ashamed to say I think it's totally and utterly fantastic. Here is yet another teenybop act you'd love to loathe but can't because they're so damn talented" - The Daily Telegraph

"9 out of 10. Shockingly, brilliantly, excitingly new. The most disturbing thing about t.A.T.u is just how refreshing - how damned good - they are, as this debut album proves" - dotmusic.

The latest praise has come from Morrissey, legendary former frontman of seminal band The Smiths, whose 1984 classic How Soon Is Now? receives a t.A.T.u.-style revamp by the duo on their 200km/H In The Wrong Lane album. Morrissey hails t.A.T.u.'s version as "magnificent" in the June 2003 issue of the UK's Word magazine.

t.A.T.u.'s highly anticipated Eurovision Song Contest performance is schedules to take place in Latvia on Saturday, May 24, followed by a performance on the MTV Movie Awards, along with 50 Cent and Pink, in the U.S. on June 5.
