RIGA (Reuters) - A brief lesbian kiss was all that controversial Russian pop duo t.A.T.u. had to offer Saturday's Eurovision contest after rumors of nudity and other raunchy stunts on live television kept organizers on tenterhooks.

Many had suspected teenagers Lena and Julia would try to ambush the 48th Eurovision contest with an X-rated publicity stunt at a family event watched by 160 million people.

Instead the duo, favorites to win, managed only a brief kiss to the jeers of 6,000 people in the Latvian capital Riga's Skonto Hall.

The European Broadcasting Union, which runs the show, had warned of a possible publicity stunt by t.A.T.u., better known for wearing school uniforms in provocative music videos that earned the label "paedo-pop."
