t.A.T.u. are greeted by fans at Narita Airport Wednesday morning.

The superstar duo was expected to sing during the Music Station program on TV Asahi in Tokyo.

They appeared before the cameras during an opening scene of the live program shortly before 8 p.m., but the two girls and their manager told TV Asahi staff members that they "didn't want to appear on TV anymore."

TV Asahi officials desperately tried to make them change their minds but they left without singing a song.

The duo and their manager didn't say why they refused to perform when leaving the TV Asahi building in central Tokyo.

TV Asahi admitted that they had received many complaints from viewers demanding to know why the pop duo didn't sing.

Show-biz promoter Universal Music that organized the duo's live music event in Tokyo on Saturday announced that the show was cancelled, citing "difference in opinions between the promoter and t.A.T.u." (Mainichi Shimbun, Japan, June 27, 2003)
