t.A.T.u. go over to Kirkorov (Express Gazeta - Russia)

Time of publication: 13.03.2004
As we know, the widely advertised TV show t.A.T.u. In Podnebesnaya, where the group was meant to record its second album in front of the TV-audieance, was closed by STS two weeks earlier than it was planned. Musician and producer Vasily Shugaley told me what was going on in the studio, built on the 13th floor of the Pekin Hotel during the past two weeks.

Shugaley called me in around 3 AM in the middle of February. Hardy handling the speech, he told me that Ivan Shapovalov is waiting for us in the Pekin Hotel. I suggested him to call me back in a more sober condition. He managed to get back a couple of weeks later.- When I called you that time I was on my way to Podnebesnaya, - said Shugaley. – Until 10 PM, there was filming and after people gathered there. A carnival began then: people drunk, smoked “grass”, fucked. Shapovalov used to leave at 3 AM but some musicians never left the place. We had good time there.

Stuck dullards
Once, Yulia Volkova and Lena Katina quarrelled with Ivan right in front of the cameras. According to the newspapers, they terminated the contract with the producer’s company of Shepovalov Neformat and via their former concert manager Leonid Dzjunik, who is currently working with Philipp Kirkorov, started the negotiations with Philipp to become their producer.

- It’s all lies! – said Leonid with indignation, who was cought by my call to his cellular phone in Israel on the tour with Kirkorov. – Yes, I spoke with t.A.T.u. lawyers and the girls’ parents. We spoke about me getting back to the girls. I discussed it with Philipp. He had nothing against me giving the girls some support. It was all only on the level of house-talks. Besides, the girls didn’t terminate any contracts with Neformat. It looks like, they simply dismissed Ivan as a producer. He’s not the only owner of Neformat thought. There’s Boris Rensky, who has 50% of shares. The girls still have a contact with him. If to terminate the contracts, the girls won’t be able to work as t.A.T.u., as the label belongs to Neformat.

- Who will be producing t.A.T.u. instead of Ivan is unclear to me. As far as I know, there are some offers from Interscope. It won’t be the same t.A.T.u without Shapovalov. It would be more clever not to dismiss Ivan but instead to set the conditions to break with his present social circle. To my opinion, it’s the thing that disturbs his work. Partially, the fact of me leaving t.A.T.u. was connected to this reason. Everything started when so called Beata Ardeeva (Anna Ponomareva) joined the management. Later, one more “type” showed up. They wanted to stick to such a successful project and show themselves as super managers. They put their own people everywhere, who don’t understand a thing in anything. What did it lead to? – The show in Podnebesnaya was a clear demonstration of it!
