The gig of Tatu's flopped

Time of publication: 13.04.2006
It seems that Tatu needs to get over into the category of former stars. At least their performance in Riga's "Kipsala" last night looked more like a gig of performers that had seen enough in their career and that now make a few extra bucks on their past popularity.

Despite of young age the Tatu-girls hardly moved on stage and showed that they are, of course, glad to see everyone but in fact they are fed up with everything: the same old songs, the same old lyrics, cities that look like twins where there's less and less audience. There was a time in Japan… but now – half filled arena and a few thousands fans from a city of one million people.

You could absolutely sense no energy in the arena, which stands for the half of the success at the gig. A lame reaction of the audience to what happened on stage. Even if there was some activity in the first rows then with each foot further from stage the faces looked more and more sad.

As it should be, the girls sang songs from their new English album in the first part. The second part sounded more familiar as there were songs from Shapovalov's era. The crowd warmed a bit up by that time and began to sing along though the girls went on moving calmly on stage without any particular restrain.

With each new song, the voice of Yulia's sounded weaker and weaker. It was strange how Yulia croaked the standard phrases like "You are so many", "We love you", "Everything is cool here" and it looked like she was going to loose her voice but managed to sing the songs clean. The truth is that it wasn't like that all the time and periodically both girls failed to hit the right spot of their own playback. Oh well, maybe I needed to be closer to another speaker…

The gig's candy was the outfit change right on stage: a minute of darkness and after the crowd was allowed to spot how girls change their not so modest scene outfits.

A big screen decorated the stage. The video sequence didn't follow all the songs but instead the live musicians tried to create the energy – it was them, who did their work professionally that night.

Oh, if only Tatu-girls came when Shapovalov was still in charge and their popularity broke all limits, then it could be the gig of the year! It looks like Yulia and Lena by having had decided to sail on their own have forgotten that every ship must have its own captain.
