UK three in a row for chart-toppers Tatu (Examiner)Time of publication: 17.02.2003 |
Lesbian teen duo Tatu – criticised for promoting “paedophilic pop” – were tonight celebrating their third week as the UK's number one.
The Russian girls remained in the top spot with their catchy single All The Things She Said despite a strong challenge from Fame Academy runner-up and Northern Ireland native Sinead Quinn whose release, I Can’t Break Down, went straight to number two.
The teenagers – Julia Volkova, 16, and Lena Katina, 17 – made headlines this week after reportedly coming to blows in a hotel while on tour in the Czech Republic.
The bust up left Lena needing hospital treatment.
The singers have already sparked controversy with a raunchy video which prompted TV presenters Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan to call for the song to be banned.
In the video the pair kiss and fondle each other while dressed in school uniforms.
Madeley branded them “sick”, while wife Judy described Tatu as “paedophilic entertainment”.
The new release from Sinead Quinn pushed teen heart throb Justin Timberlake’s Cry Me A River down to number three while Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland remained at number four with her solo single Stole.
In at number five was the second highest new entry Don’t Worry by Appleton - sisters Nicole and Natalie – formerly from girl group All Saints.
Other new singles included Reminisce/Where The Story Ends from the East London collective Blazin’ Squad which came straight in at number eight
In the album chart, Massive Attack’s new release 100th Window - their first LP in almost five years – went straight to number one.
It kept Justified by Justin Timberlake in second place and pushed last week’s top CD Simply Deep by Kelly Rowland into third spot.
