Tatu take on gay video ban prudes
From Will Stewart in Moscow
Tatu star Julia Volkova last night vowed to fly to Britain to take on the 'prudes' who banned the duo's raunchy lesbian video.
She said the controversial chart-top-ping Russians will be coming to London soon 'to meet our thousands of fans'.
The singer was speaking as she arrived at her parents' tenement home in Moscow for her 18th birthday.
Julia is poised to become Russia's latest millionaire along with her flame-haired partner Lena Katina as they embark today on a tour of America and decide whether to accept a lucrative offer to pose nude for Playboy.
The girl's single, All the Things She Said, looks likely to stay at No.1 for a fourth week when the charts are announced tomorrow.
However, the video for the song was banned from Top of the Pops by BBC bosses because it showed the pair kissing while dressed in school uniforms. 'I don't understand why they've forbidden our videos or why they seem too shocking for some of the prudes in Britain,' said Julia.
The girls' controversial manager Ivan Shapovalov has described Tatu as his 'underage sex project'. He likes to present the singers as schoolgirl lesbians even though both are now 18.
'It is inconceivable that there is such outrage in Britain,' he said. 'As a psychiatrist, I suggest a public debate.' |
