Tatu
When pop music is done properly--when it's not done for money or by Kym Marsh (note: former singer of the flop stars band 'Hear'say') -- it goes beyond being about music. Sometimes, once or twice in a generation, it transcends the artists, the charts and pop itself, and goes straight for the heart of the social and cultural pulse of the entire planet. That's precisely what Tatu achieved with 'All the things she said'. Whatever the motives of Lena, Julia or management Svengali Ivan Shapovalov, Tatu have done more for sexual equality than any artists since the 1980s. Debut album '200Km/H in the wrong lane' bristles with torment, jealousy, lovelessness and bewilderment. It's defiant, strong and sensitive, and it refuses to admit that it's wrong. When Lena and Julia's mission is accomplished, the rest of the world will agree.
What do you think? I reckon it's pretty good considering the fact that NME's last mention on Tatu is some stupid gossips/speculations about Yulia's birthday party.
