TATU: Just Good Friends? ("LIME" Magazine - Malaysia)Time of publication: 22.03.2003 |
Much controversy surrounds Russian duo, Tatu. Since bursting on the scene with haunting hit 'All The Things She Said', teens Julia Volkova (left) and Lena Katina have sold 1.5 million albums to become Russia's most succesful pop export. The girls owe their success to one Ivan Shapovalov, a former child psychologist who decided he wanted to be a pop-video director. Placing an ad in the Russian press, he auditioned Julia and Lena, liked what he saw and turned them into stars. Of course, the fact that the girls are in love with each other (and prone to public displays of affection) has given Tatu that much-needed salacious edge. But is their love for real? Or is it the creation of a savvy salesman? After all, there have been reports of the girls having boyfriends! This is all getting too much for us...
