Tatu tacky for American telly ("Sunday Star" - UK)

TATU's raunchy lesbian antics may have shot them to the top of the charts in the UK and in Europe, but they've left a bitter taste in the mouth of middle America.

We're told the Russian teenagers have been banned from appearing on the Tonight Show after snogging and caressing as they performed in front of a studio audience, depite being told by the show's bosses not to do so.

An insider said: "The girls had been told not to go too far but they did. In doing so they broke a verbal agreement we had - so their little stunt was edited out. They won't be invited back, that's for sure."

Shocked bosses immediately ordered the smooching to be cut and the US puplic were shown a watered down version.

But the girls - Julia Volkova and Lena Katina, 18 - could now face a telly blackout across the States by other networks. But a source in the t.A.T.u. camp informs us the girls will NOT tame down their behaviour for the US market.

A band source said: "The girls aren't going to change for anyone. Their image is built around being young lovers."

With their second single out in the UK soon, we reckon they'll keep pushing the limits with their sexy antics.

Anything to flog a record, eh?
