Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova of Tatu recently returned from their U.S. tour with their navels pierced, the daily Zhizn reports.
"In Los Angeles we stayed in the luxurious Chateau Marmont," Volkova told Zhizn. "Every day we would go swimming in the hotel’s swimming pool. On the very first day we noticed that all the female swimmers in the pool had some kind of piercing. So, we decided to get one, too."
Tatu got their piercings at one of Los Angeles’ piercing salons, with Katina going first and Volkova next. The whole operation took less than two hours and the girls paid about $200.
"After the operation," Volkova added, "we went straight to a jewelry store where we picked up classy white-gold studs with tiny diamonds. Our producer, Ivan Shapovalov, footed the bill. He said it was a present to us from him."
Now the girls hope that their beautiful navel studs will bring them luck at the upcoming Eurovision 2003 contest in Riga, Latvia, where Tatu will represent Russia. At Eurovision, Tatu will present their new song "Ne ver, ne boisya" (Don’t Believe, Don’t Be Afraid).
"We will explode the foundations of this contest," Katina said, "and we will show them something they have never seen before."
