T.A.T.U. Faces Lawsuit Over Canceled U.K. Shows (LAUNCH Radio Networks)

Time of publication: 02.05.2003
The managers of Russian pop act T.A.T.U. are being sued after the duo canceled two U.K. concerts--one at London's Wembley Arena on Friday (May 2), and the other at Manchester Evening News Arena on Sunday (May 4).

The shows' promoters, EEM Group, told the BBC that T.A.T.U.'s managers had put "unachievable and numerous obstacles" in the way of the performances, and that they were suing the managers for nearly $500,000.

The concerts were canceled due to poor ticket sales, according to the BBC, but the band's managers claim singer Julia Volkova was unable to perform due to an unspecified illness.

T.A.T.U. sold about 3,000 tickets for the two venues, which can each accommodate more than 10,000 people.

<->Volkova and partner Lena Katina became the first Russian act to have a number one single in the U.K. earlier this year with "All The Things She Said."
