A publicity stunt Tatu far? (ITV.Com)Time of publication: 07.05.2003 |
A crowd of teenage girls are appearing in pop duo Tatu's new video after filming had to be moved to a new location following objections from police.
The girls, dressed in school uniforms and knee-high socks, were strutting their stuff in front of the Tate Modern in central London.
Fourteen girls turned up for filming south of Westminster Bridge but were turned away by a freelance camerawoman for the group who said police had called the session off .
Tatu asked fans to gather for this morning's shoot when they appeared at the HMV store in Oxford Circus on Tuesday.
They wanted to film on Albert Embankment, opposite the Houses of Parliament.
But a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police said the event could have attracted too many people while Parliament was in session.
She said: "We were given a day's notice of the filming. The details were faxed through yesterday.
"It was not only going to have 100 extras there, but also the press.
"If the press were there then it would have gone out further that this was happening. You could have lots of fans turning up and that is undesirable.
"We are not here to veto filming but with 24 hours' notice and with it being in contravention of this order, it was deemed to be unsuitable."
Montana Manning, 16, said she would not be going to the new location and the group should have sorted out permission to film earlier.
She added: "I think all this is just a publicity stunt. Everyone is going to leave."
Debbie Charnley, 20, said she could not stay and was sick of the duo cancelling events.
She said: "I'm in London especially to see them. They have cancelled concerts and now this.
"It is beyond a joke now and they are kicking us when we're down.
"We have come all this way to see them. I still like them, but it's annoying."
Marketa Krivdova, 16, said she had been looking forward to appearing in the video.
She said: "They are not going to get many people here next time and we are all here now.
"My friends and I have got rehearsals to go to now because we are a dance team so we can't stick around to see what will happen."
