Call me cynical, but I cannot believe that the latest pop phenomena to hit our shores is supposed to appeal to girls like me!

Russian band Tatu, made up of Lena Katina, 18, and Julia Volkova, 17, are apparently a pop sensation in Europe. They also claim to be gay. WeЎ¦ve had Mr Young race out of the closet and a string of boy and girl bands created by reality TV that may or may not be ЎV but none of them have used it as a marketing ploy yet.

Tatu, which roughly translated means ЎҐThis Girl Loves That GirlЎ¦ were invented by Russian psychologist-turned-advertising-guru Ivan Shapovalov. That in itself must beg some questions. But IЎ¦m not going there. They may be cute, put according to the hype that surrounds them, they are far more likely to behave like the Eminems of this world than fall for any manipulative stunts.

The girls were apparently chosen by Shapovalov at an open auditon in Moscow. No one seems to know if potential band members were asked their sexuality. I think you are probably thinking what I am thinking here. Tatu shot to fame in Eastern Europe with their single "I've Lost My Mind," which tells the story of a lesbian love affair between two young girls.
