They'll be Number One Tomorrow- But TV's Richard and Judy Say. BAN THEM (UK Daily Star)

Time of publication: 01.02.2003
A STEAMY video showing teen pop act t.A.T.u in a lesbian clinch is set to shoot their single to No1 tomorrow.
Furious TV hosts Richard and Judy have called for the record to be banned.
Russian lesbian singers Julia Volkova, 17 and Lena Katina, 18, pictured above at a recent gig, were 14 years old when the promo video for their Single All The Things She Said was filmed.
In the video, they kiss and fondle each other while dressed in school uniforms.
Channel 4's Richard Madeley yesterday branded the double-act, "Sick".

Time tATu kissed off: Sensational ban 'em jibe from Richard and Judy.

Richard and Judy have called for a ban on pop tease t.A.T.u. - claiming they are paedophile porn.

It's the first high-profile public expression of outage at the supposedly lesbian double-act, which could top the charts on Sunday.

Daytime telly's most famous couple waded in yesterday to attack the teenage duo, their manager and record company
Polydor.

The Channel 4 presenters are convinced that t.A.T.u. are marketed squarely at the paedophile market.

The two girls, Julia Volkova and Lena Kantina, are on course for a No.1 with All The Things She Said - but Richard and Judy want the record withdrawn from the shops.

Boycott

Yesterday Richard fumed: "We are being told that these girls actually have underage lesbian sex in real life.

"And we're being told by there manager that he spotted a gap in the market - a paedophile gap in the market - and he's pushing them towards that.

"Now, that's sick and it's wrong and personally I think Polydor should not be selling the record in this country.

"I think they are supporting a straightforward, open paedophile message and that's terrible."

Although at 17 and 18, Julia and Lena are actually over the legal age for sex, they claim they made the video for the single when they were 14.

Richard added: "Radio stations should take it upon themselves to ban it. This is going to far.

"I think people should boycott the song. And 90 per cent of our viewers have said they will."

Judy added: "I just think it's ridiculous in a society where we are obsessed with police arresting paedophiles and child porn sites, that a record company can get behind a record which has been manifactured specifically for that purpose."

t.A.T.u. were brought together by former advertising man and psychologist Ivan Shapovalov - seen as the Russian Simon Cowell.

Ivan has said: "It was five years ago I decided to do this underage sex project in Russia. Why underage? Because I found it funny.

"People visit porno sites above all others. I found that 90 per cent, nine in 10 are looking for underage entertainment. This means there is a big interest, as well as some dissatisfaction - their needs are not met."

Last night Julia insisted they were a gay couple. On the BBC's Liquid News she said: "Of course, we're lesbians. Watch the video."

A spokesperson for Polydor said "t.A.T.u. are not a typical pop act.

"Over the past year, most of their one million sales have come from Eastern Europe, have come from young girls who find their attitude inspirational."
