Tatu top the Charts (Top Of The Pops)

Time of publication: 03.02.2003
Controversial pop duo t.A.T.u have gone straight to the top of the charts.

The Russian girls, who have been slated for promoting "pedophile pop", are at number one with their single All The Things She Said.
The duo sparked controversy with a raunchy video which prompted TV presenters Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan to call for the song to be banned.

The teenagers - Julia Volkova, 16, and Lena Katina, 17 - kiss and touch each other in the video while dressed in school uniforms.

Madeley branded them "sick", while wife Judy described t.A.T.u as "pedophilic entertainment".

The duo's creator, Ivan Shapovalov, has admitted that the pair are an "underage sex project" designed to appeal to men in search of "underage entertainment".

Although the teenagers claim to be lovers, many suspect the image is manufactured and they are said to have boyfriends in Russia.

The girls knocked Fame Academy's David Sneddon off the top spot and into third place, while Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland made it to number two with her solo single Stole.
