Review: Many of you probably have never heard of t.A.T.u. and I don't blame you. t.A.T.u. is two girls, Lena Katina and Julia Volkova, who sing pop music. They have been popular for two years, but they were popular in Russia. It isn't often that a Russian group finds success in Europe and North America. A good portion of their success may lie in the fact that they dress in schoolgirl uniforms and kiss each other quite often, giving out a serious lesbian vibe. They admit they aren’t lesbians, but they "love each other very much". Don't let their looks fool you either, these girls can sing pretty damn good.
Now, when I look in my CD collection I don't see anything like t.A.T.u.. In fact, I don't see any pop music at all. I do however, see Blink-182, Creed, and Linkin Park, so I may not be the person best suited at saying what music is good or bad.
I had been a fan of t.A.T.u. for about three days when I found out that they had an English speaking album coming out. Before I got the album, the only English song I had heard was their single, "All the Things She Said". I had heard a good portion of their Russian speaking songs, and I liked them very much. However, I wasn't sure if they could translate their talent into English. Since I picked up the album at the store, only on CD has been playing in my Discman and computer for the last two weeks: t.A.T.u. - 200 km/h in the Wrong Lane. The lyrics, while not always making sense to me ("Nothing can stop this, not now I love you" wha?) they still keep the original ideas of the Russian versions of the songs while being "catchy". And not to deprive the English fans of anything, two Russian songs are on the CD and two other songs have Russian mixed in them as well.
The music is made using a wide variety of instruments. Everything from techno beats to the Spanish guitar. Each song seems to have a soul of it's own. Loud, soft. Fast, slow. The songs are as individual as people.
This album has everything and I love it.
