Yulia Volkova and Elena Katina from the group Tatu – the first Russian worldwide stars spoke openly to Glamour about their boyfriends, outfits, cars and mutual feelings.
Big golden couch in a central Moscow coffee-house, full with oligarchs, and decorated with exposition of Andrei Sharov, and presenting outrageous prices (a plate of Argentinean meat can cost fifteen hundreds rubles) – good choice for a conversation with the group Tatu Volkova, wearing a baseball hat and a smock, wants medallions, but there's none. So she takes a beef and carrot mincemeat. Katina, wearing a sweater and having a pony-tail hairstyle, wants a Californian rolls.
Fostered by a pop-sage Ivan Shapovalov, the girl-duo didn't lose its popularity after the brakeup with their first producer: These girls now have access to all prestigeous houses of the city, having fun and feeling well.
They are stars again - their new albums fly around the world in the most glorious way, they are torn to pieces by music agents, representatives of the mass-media, and simple admirers. “We're very popular in South America” – Yulia declairs. “In Asia and in Russia too. Everywhere”.
- Do you have a huge rider? What's included?
Elena: We take this subject very evenly. We never demand things such as “We need 5 packages of hazelnuts in chocolate, but choose only the green ones, because we detest the others, and if we'll find them, we won't perform".
Yulia: Vegetables, fruits, sandwiches, tea and a shower. I don't need a rider at all. The fact, that our stars write 3 pages of demands is just a proof, that the artist isn't cool. It's cool, when you have 2-3 demands. Why! There's a suitcase with clothes, you can have a shower anywhere, you have a place to sleep – that's great.
Yulia, why did you call your daughter Vika?
Yulia: I made that decision right away, when I was still pregnant- I told everyone – only Victoria. I have an aunt or a cousin. I didn't define yet who she is to me, she lives in the USA. She's beautiful, smart, and talented. I called my daughter in her honor. Besides, Victoria means a triumph. I even want a tattoo with her name.
Do you meet the father (the father – a boyfriend since long time ago, sportsman in the sphere of martial arts, Pavel Sidorov – note Glamour) often?
Yulia: We broke up relatively long time ago, but we're friends. We met literally a day before yesterday.
Do you having close contact with someone among the men?
Yulia: Yes, I do. It's a singer. But, it's really unnecessary for everyone to know.
Elena: Everything's great. There's a man, we live together. A lawyer.
Are you studying now? What sphere?
Yulia: Lenka is studying, I'm not.
Elena: I'm graduating Moscow Humanitarian Institute. I'll get the diploma at the fall, I'll be a psychologist. But the option to work by the profile is totally dropout. I don't want to. I realized that I won't be able to leave the work at work; I'll be very worried at home. I have many different ideas, but right now I do what I do.
What will happen with Tatu in the future? You'll keep entertaining us for long time?
Yulia: Perhaps, we'll be in Tatu until our death. Why to guess? Maybe, an hour later I'll go some place, got hit, and that's it - the end of Tatu
And what about the family?
Yulia: I don't have serious relationship and I don't want a husband. Maybe when I'll be sixty, I'll get married.
Elena: I'm more serious person in that area. Yes, I think about a family, marriage.
Why do you need marriage anyway?
Elena: At least for the kids to be born.
Yulia: For love! If there's no love, then it doesn't matter from who to have the kids. It can be anyone.
Elena: Naturally, I won't date with someone I don't love.
And do you love each other?
Elena: What we have - is not even a friendship, it's much more. When people actually live together for ten years, you can't call it just a friendship. I take her more as a relative, than a friend.
But you are done with the lesbian line?
Together: We never even started!
Yulia: We didn't start anything, so there's nothing to end.
What an intrigue. What do you do at your spare time, what are you interested in?
Yulia: I like theater much more than books. And cinema. I want to shoot a movie myself this year. It'll be a scandalous video. I think it'll be forbidden. Girls, boys, violence. I'll show it all. It'll have very sad ending but I just started to write the script.
Elena: Books - Fitzgerald, Moem, Feitwanger, Vonnegut.
Yulia, why did you become brunette again and not a blonde?
Yulia: Black is better. It's closer to me.
You changed you dressing style, before it was Scotland-skirts and white blouses, now what?
Yulia: Don't worry, I'll create it all. We'll have open attires that no one has!
Are you that interested in fashion?
Elena: I'm- not. And Yulia leaves for tour with one suitcase, and comes back with four of them.
Yulia: I can be in shops around the clock. It's like a rest. Here's a person (nodding towards Lena) who likes to read, and I hate this. It's easier for me to watch a movie or a play. I also like to draw costume models. I like Gautier, the first and the second line of Dolce & Gabbana, Volga Volga, Russian designers in general. I hate the way our chicks are dressed on the streets!
Do you practice some sports?
Yulia: Lifting barbells at home. I don't have a special work out station.
Lena: I'm pretty lazy at this subject. It's easier for me to run around with the vacuum cleaner.
At what time you're waking up?
Elena: Around 11-12. I try to go to sleep not too late. Around midnight. I love to sleep.
Yulia: I love also! I can wake up at 3 pm, easily but I don't go to bed earlier than 3 am either.
Are you wealthy girls?
Yulia: I don't chase money but I think we're quite rich for our age. It's not that bad to have your own Mercedes CLS (The main price 72 thousands Euro – Note Glamour).
Elena: (Laughs) And Toyota also…
Do you have a dream?
Yulia: No. I'm a realist.
