t.A.T.u. Forever! ("Molotok" Magazine - Russia)

Time of publication: 14.01.2003
t.A.T.u. Forever!

Two years ago, "Molotok" was the first magazine to put t.A.T.u. on it's cover. On the New Year's issue 2000/01. At that time, Julia and Lena were just getting popular in Russia. Now they are famous all over the world. In this issue, we are celebrating "Molotok's" third birthday, two of which went by with Tatu! Meet the stars of this and next year!

-How do you see yourself in your 50's? (Masha Senkova, Balashyha)

Lena. I want to take care of myself, and not look like a 50 year-old grandma. By the way, my grandma looks good. She is 60, but looks like she's 40. I think I'll do everything to look younger. But will I perform... I dunno, I dunno... Anyway, I think, that the stage is not a place for a 50 year-old person--who would want to look at old ladies that dance and jump? And I won't be doing any plastic surgery, it's not healthy. In my 50's, I'll be a woman, who goes to the theatre (at last my dream will come true!) every day. Go and see everything!

Julia. I don't know.

-What will you do, if the record company asks you to get boyfriends? (Ryzhyi Skeptik, Moscow)

Lena. This is terrible. I don't think they'll ask though. Of course, there are examples; Elton John got married. Maybe we will too. In Holland.

Julia. We'll get boyfriends then. Why not. If we want, we'll have boyfriends; if we don't, we won't.

-Are you planning to write your own music and songs? (Emilia, Izhevsk)

Lena. We do write poems. Both of us. But only for ourselves. I just don't think that I am a talented writer. What I write is a wave of emotions: the paper will keep it. I am not going to publish it. There are people who write better then me.

Julia. I write poems. Won't publish them.

-Do you read what the press writes about you? (Seget Krylov, Rostov)

Julia. I don't care what they write about us. I love when they write bad things about us.

Lena. I read when I have time. But the contents don't worry me, even the negative review from "Rolling Stones". It's totally cool that they only gave us two stars: now we will have even more opinions. I prefer reading books rather then magazines. I love classics: romances and novels. My grandma shocked me not long ago, she came to me and said, "Here, Lenochka, listen to this!" And started to read, um, what's his name...Sorokin (Note: Russian writer). About how a girl was eaten. I nearly ran to the toilet; it was that sick! Nightmare! I don't like books like that.

-Are you ready to shoot in "adult" magazines? (Beholder, Tambov)

Lena. I don't like such magazines, only a bunch of naked women in them. But this is my personal opinion. Whoever wants to be in them, they do so. I, probably, don't want to, never will. Why show your body to everyone?

Julia. I am ready.

-Did Tatu have offers to shoot in a movie? (Lelya Ivanova, Kislovdsk)

Lena. They didn't ask me personally. They gave me another awesome offer though: to star in cartoons. To draw a character with my looks. Should I be happy about this?

-What happened to Julia's health? Is she alright? (Misha Fonin, Berlin)

Julia. I don't wanna talk about it. I'll be OK soon.

Lena. Julia had slight problems with her voice. But I know that everything will be back to normal soon. It was really hard to perform without her in Talinn. We support each other on stage--when I say something, she responds, and vice versa. And then I couldn't see her eyes, to calm me down. I didn't know what to do. I came out and just expressed my emotions. The audience was crying. Me too. But this is in the past. Now Julia will recover, and we will record a new album, the songs are waiting for us. Hopefully, it'll be finished this spring!
