IG: They can't come to Britain, but we can go to them. t.A.T.u. are live with our reporter Dasha in Moscow now for the first -ever- UK TV interview. Dasha, thank you very much for helping us with the translation problems. And Lena, I think... um... uh... Are both the girls there? Lena and Julia--
D: Yeah, yeah, here they are. Here is Lena, here is Yulia.
IG: Welcome to Liquid News. Got Lena on the left with the red hair and Yulia, just waving there, with the black hair. Lena, you've been apparently too ill to travel to the UK. What was the matter? And are you better now?
L: So, I think Julia will speak about this problem in Russian, and I think Dasha will translate, because... eh... I think she could do it better.
IG: OK, Julia, you feeling better--
D: It wasn't actually Lena, it was Julia that was ill. That's why they didn't go.
In Russian:
{D: Can you tell them why you couldn't go...?}
{Y: Well because I wasn't feeling well. Had problems with my voice, but now everything's fine.}
D (translating for Yulia): I had problems with my voice, but now it's all OK.
IG: Okay, Lena, um, you're expected to be #1 in the charts, in the UK British charts, this Sunday. How does that make you feel?
L: Frankly speaking, we didn't expect, but we feel great. Because everybody send us (some garbled words that I can't decipher -Echo) with the congratulations. "Wow, it's super, it's super. You are the first place in the UK!" And so on, so something unbelievable. I dunno, I dunno... even how I can explain this.
Yulia is laughing quietly and shrugging amusedly (for whatever reason - Echo).
IW: So, it's very exciting to represent Russia in this way as well; to be one of the first pop acts to break through internationally. It's so exciting.
L (nodding some with a smile): Yeah...
IG: Why, why-- I thought actually, Lena, you're very keen-- It's very rare that we see you without school uniforms on. Why are you so keen to wear the school uniforms all the time?
Lena laughs, while Dasha translates for Yulia.
In Russian:
{D: Why do you like wearing school uniforms so much?}
L: I dunno-- I dunno how to answer this question. For example, if you are speaking about our video, first video, "All The Things She Said"--
In Russian:
{Y: Tell them it's an excellent question... (She sounds a little sarcastic.)}
L: Uh, Julia says that it was really super question, um, because--
IG: Thank you, Julia.
L: --we, um... (She laughs a little and turns to Yulia to translate.) Spacibo. Because when were were--
Y (interrupting again): No problem.
L: --shooting this video, we were-- (Yulia grins and Lena follows with a little giggling.) We were in school. And, um... It was just an image--
Yulia interrupts again.
L: Two teenage girls and Julia says, "Relax, everything is OK."
At this point, both girls seem very amused. The interviewers laugh a little as well.
IG: Okay, so, Lena, how old were you when you made the video for "All The Things She Said"?
L: Uh... Fourteen.
IG: So the-- so the kissing scenes between the two of you were when you were fourteen years old?
L: Yeah.
IW: Oh, so did you love it? Did you love having a little kiss?
In Russian:
{Y: At the casting, but in the clip, 15. (But no one can really hear her.)}
Meanwhile, the other guy sitting with the interviewers in mumbling something, making the girl sitting beside him laugh.
L: What? I'm sorry, I didn't get it.
IW: I was saying, do you love having a little kiss? I kissed a girl once, I thought it was quite nice.
L: Yeah, if, eh... If we... (She is motioning with her hand.) ...Don't like it, we wouldn't do it, so...
IW: You're so right, are you in love--
L: You can-- You can understand our feelings. Of course, we like it. If we did it, we like it. (She shrugs.)
Yulia is making comments of some sort. Both interviewers are trying to say something, but do not succeed.
L: "Very funny interview," Julia said.
At this point, Yulia is just giggling and talking all at once. Lena as well, but in English, translating and gesturing.
L: So her... It's really, really very funny. It's because, she's just sitting and... she doesn't know what to say and so on. (Lena is just laughing now, while Yulia keeps making comments.)
In Russian:
{Y: (Singing.) I worked in the circus. I was a star... translate it for them.}
IG: Lena, we-- we have to ask. The whole-- The whole gimmick of you kissing and being lovers, it's just a gimmick; you're not really going out with each other, are you.
L: I think it's not really good question, because, um, first of all, we don't want to answer this--are we lesbians or not--we think that everybody have their own opinions.
Yulia bursts out in apparent and amused exasperation.
In Russian:
{Y: Of course we're lesbians! Well? Answer the question! Answer it. (After Dasha.) And so what? Tell them. Do they want to experience us more closely? Ask them.}
D: She says, "Of course, we are lesbians. Tell them, tell them. We are." (Dasha is finding this funny.)
Both girls are laughing, talking amongst each other a tiny bit.
IG: Lena-- But, Lena, you're kissing in the video. Of course, people are going to ask you, you're kissing in your video.
L: Yeah... What's that...
IW: But in England, people don't even kiss each other in public, or even in their own houses. So, no wonder that the UK has lost their minds over two girls kissing--
A discussion starts with several voices clogging together.
L (looking surprised): Oh my God, what's going on? I think--
Yulia interrupts. Yet again. With a comment.
L: I think we are just arriving in the right... (She is struggling a little with her words.) ...In the right time.
D (translating what Yulia said): And Julia claims that you're belated over there, you know, in the UK.
Yulia makes another comment. Well, a question.
D (translating some more): How do you love each other?
IW: Oh, not often enough.
IG: We don't love each other the same way you love each other.
Dasha is translating for the girls. Lena laughs.
IG: Lena, you know-- Lena, I'll be honest with you here, no one in Britain really believes that you are lovers. How are-- How are you gonna convince us that you actually are?
L: Um... You know, it doesn't--
G: Kiss, kiss, kiss...
Dasha translates for the girls, because they hadn't caught that comment. Yulia is shaking her head.
L: Uh, no... No, they can... They can look for... They can watch the video and... (She shrugs nonchalantly, in that "we don't give a crap about what you think" way.)
IW: Well, I'm coming directly to Russia to kiss you both, you're so divine. We had such a lovely time with you.
Dasha is translating for Yulia, and the people in the UK are laughing.
L: Oh my God... It sounds great. (She's amused.)
IW: It's gotta be fabulous. Thank you so much and congratulations on your many gorgeous achievements, including kissing and a #1 hit.
L: Thank you, thank you very much, we're really excited and really... (Lena doesn't seem to know what to say.)
Y: Thank you!
IW: We love you, we love you red square, God bless.
IG: Now, she can speak English. At the end, she can speak English. Thank you very much.
IW: So many red squares in my life, let me tell you...
