Ta Lyubit Tu! ("Vse" Magazine - Russia)Time of publication: 01.03.2003 |
Exclusive Interview
Whatever you may think, Tatu is becoming a product for "foreign use". They spend more time overbroad, then at home. Perform. Have Photo sessions. Write. And interact with local journalists.
::What are the Tatu girls asked about most of the time? And how do they answer? We offer you a selection of questions asked in American, Norwegian and Spanish magazines!::
What are you thinking while you kiss in front of millions if people?
Lena: What do people think about when they kiss their girlfriend?
Not everyone gets to kiss their girlfriend in front of millions of people!
Julia: Well… We both think that we are kissing a person that we love.
What do you think: Does your audience wait for your kiss?
Julia: No, they wait for our music!
Tell us, do you really not interact with guys?
Lena: (Laughs.) I don't want to talk about this in Julia's presence!
Julia Come on!
Lena: Don't want to!
Still, some media write that you are secret girlfriends with boys from "Smash!".
Lena: It's not true. We are just friends. We used to perform together in Neposedi.
Do you really lose your mind over love and your control about each other, like you sing in your songs?
Julia: Yes. What we sing about happened to us at some point.
Lena: It depends on which "control" you are talking about. Like when we were shooting our first video, I had to lose weight, and it was all under control!!
They say that your parents were not happy about your first video, and you "love".
Lena: Yes, we did have problems at first. But now everything is alright. They are our parents after all! And in the end, they understood us. They said, "This is your choice, do whatever you think is right." I think that every teenager has moments when his or her parents don't understand him.
Did you have problems with others because of your image?
Lena: Some people found out our cell-phone numbers. Really angry guys used to call me, screaming that because of us their girlfriends are lesbians, and that they are going to kill us. Sometimes, they just come up to us and scream: "Tatu is Sh*t"!
But this is the other side of your popularity. But what is it's secret? What is the "formula"? In the carefully chosen image? In the scandalous surrounding of Tatu?
Lena: If someone thinks so, we are not going to argue.
What do you think, did Tatu influence homosexual people?
Lena: Every person is bisexual. Everyone has a homosexual side. All that we did is show that there is nothing to be ashamed of.
Why do teenagers believe in Tatu?
Lena: They felt that they could relate to us. That we sing about their problems. We sing about love, and that is the most important thing in the world.
Do the fans in Russia and USA understand you in the same way?
Julia: Basically, the same.
Your schoolgirl outfits remind a lot of people of Britney Spears in her clip "...Baby, One More Time". Are you different from her in any way?
Lena: Of course! We are not like her. Only the blind don't see that! Britney sings: "I love him, but he doesn’t love me." Or vice-versa, he loves her, and she doesn't. Our songs are totally different. But Britney has her own fans, she has great songs, which we love to dance to. It's just that Britney is Britney, and we are Tatu.
You have almost been everywhere in the world. Which place impressed you the most?
Julia: Moscow!
Lena: Yes, Moscow! We miss the city so much! It has a lot of free people leaving in it!
Julia: Moscow, Moscow!! Although, I like Amsterdam too…
Is there an artist with which you would like to work with?
Julia: No!
Lena: We are a duo. We don't need anyone.
Tatu really accelerated! This New Year their debut single went "Platinum" in Italy, Norway and Sweden, and in Switzerland and Spain: "Gold". The album reached Golden status in Italy, Spain and Finland.
How would you describe your music?
Julia: What do we sound like? Rock? Pop? Dance music?
Lena: Who knows? This is just our music, that's it!!
What would happen if, for some reason (personal or artistic), you would fall apart?
Lena: Who knows? We might realize that we like boys more at some point…
"Ta lyubit Tu" ("This girls love that girls") – this is how the Tatu girls describe what "Tatu" means to foreign journalists. Romanian fans were really smart, they named a site with that slogan!
