Not Exactly Bright with Wisdom, But at Least not Boring ("Telegraph" - Russia)

Time of publication: 22.05.2003
The appearance of the Russian duo brought life to the normal procedure of Eurovision. The halls became full, photographers’ eyes became bright, the number of reporters increased dramatically.
Eurovision fans were very uncomfortable with Tatu’s behavior, which they demonstrated loudly during the press conference.

Before the beginning of the rehearsals, there were so many reporters and tech-personel in the halls, that there was hardly enough room for everyone. But only photographers got a chance to imprint the rehearsals on film, video cameras were not allowed for some reason. The only exception was First Channel, which sent Tatu to Eurovision.

Thinking for Three

The girls strolled around stage, giving orders to tech-personel. The only musicians on stage were a guitarist and a drummer. And only on the fifth try did the duo attempt to sing. We will have to disappoint the fans — Julia and Lena singing live, is a, to say it delicately, horrible experience. They scream, to be honest, and do not sing.

Julia not only was cocky, but was also out of rhythm. With all that, Julia constantly asked Shapovalov in the audience: "Vanya, is there another chorus?" After a few miserable attempts to sing, Katya Nechajeva appeared on stage, slightly improving the singing. By the way, a lot of people say that she “sings” for the duo.

After the rehearsals, all the reporters rushed into the press-conference room — they had to get seats before it started, although it was still half an hour until the start. This kind of enthusiasm is new to Skonto. Press-conference was cut short from 35 minutes to 15 minutes for some reason. The first to ask was Russian press, putting the foreigners “on hold”.

We can only say with honesty "Bravo!" to the girls, who were stubbornly shooting back all the questions. They might not be bright with wisdom, but at least they are not boring. They commented their participation in the contest: "What’s wrong with just having fun?"

For the whole picture, here are some questions and answers.

Q: “Will you get married, as was published in one newspaper?”

Лена: "Say “HI” to the newspaper."

Q: “Will you be shocking the audience during the finals, or will everything be as rehearsed?”

Shapovalov: “Judging from the number of reporters, you are already shocked.”

Q: "How do you like the setting of the contest?"

Julia: “Horrible. Simply sucks. The sound is bad, and so is the lighting. We are not used to this.”

This is when the fans at the back had enough, producing a contemptuous "Boo-oo-oo…" Congrats, girls!
