Foul Reputation Follows Tatu on EuroVision (Komsomolskaya Pravda - Russia)

Time of publication: 23.05.2003
Some talk about weather, some about fashion, but on Eurovision everyone talks about Tatu. On their press-conferences there is no place for an apple to fall, the question “What do you think about Tatu?” is being asked to all their opponents, and for an invitation to the Russian press-conferences, the reporters are ready to sell their souls to devil.

All those foreign reporters and fans, who didn’t know a thing about Tatu before Eurovision, are not disliking them for sure. But this fact just warms up everyone’s interest in them. What can be better then foul reputation?

Already during the first rehearsal and press-conference, Tatu caused a storm of disapproval from the reports and fans. The girls behaved extremely rude during the press-conference: they answered the questions without answering them, or ignored them, kept drawing doodles on the paper. The girls announced, that they are not interested in Riga’s tourist attractions, and would much rather have sex with each other during their free time. Answering the question about Skonto’s setting up, Julia replied “we didn’t like any of it”. And during their rehearsal, Julia did not once sing anything properly, saying that her throat hurts.

For the second rehearsal, Skonto’s tech-personal was all set to meet the girls – in the moral sense, because the sound and the light were fantastic from the start. To avoid the negative comments from the duo, the director repeatedly told them: “This is not the final version of the set up, we are working on the improvement. We will also record the version of the song in which Julia’s voice will sound its best”. But Julia’s voice didn’t once come out, although she tried to sing. To top it off, Lena also started to wheeze. The audience was chanting “Booo-ooo…”, expressing their extreme disapproval. By the way, it is possible that if Julia’s voice does not recover by Saturday, Estonian singer Katya Nachaeva will take her place and sing with Lena.

But something at least went right: on the second press conference the girls were a bit more polite and commented that the sound and the lighting was now to their liking. Although, neither the soiund, lightling or their lesbo-act will help them if their fail to perform their song. As the major counselor of Eurovision Yuhai Paadam said to Russian delegation: “If you want to win this, learn how to sing”.
